Latest obsession? Wire wrapped rings. Do it yourself to see how simple and fun it is. I hope these directions help you make one for yourself to coordinate with your latest outfit! You can find all these supplies at your nearest Michael's or bead store.
- 2 feet of 20 gauge metal, silver or gold. If using silver, get "Artistic Wire" as it will not tarnish.
- 1 stone bead (The one pictured cost $1.85)
- A ring mandrel
- Wire cutter
- Flat nose pliers or crimper tool
- String the bead through the wire. You will want to leave an equal amount of wire coming out of each end of the bead.
- Pinch the sides of the wire down so the wire runs parallel to each other.
- Place the bead with the wire running through it on top of the ring mandrel. (For the desired size of your ring, wrap one size larger. For example, if you want a size 7 ring, wrap a size 8 on the ring mandrel.)
- Wrap the wire around the mandrel three to four times, making sure the wire goes underneath the bead.
- Pinch the top wire down and the bottom wire up.
- Remove the ring from the mandrel.
- Tightly wrap the wire around the top of the band, near the bead hole, three to six times.
- Repeat on the other side.
- With your wire cutters, snip off the excess wire.
- With your pliers or crimper, flatten out the cut wire to prevent snagging you or your clothing.
- Wear, enjoy and brag to all your friends how crafty you are!
