Fierce vs. Fearce

Tribal Print Top: c/o Windsor Store: White Safari Jacket: c/o Windsor Store; Jeggings: JBrand; Shoes: LC Lauren Conrad for Kohls; Purse: Tory Burch; Necklace: Francesca's Collections
There's something about the colors red and black paired together that make me feel fierce.  Like, "Hey, you!  Yeah, you old man over there on your bike staring while I snap photographs.  Don't mess with me."  And then a honey bee buzzes in my atmosphere and I screech and swat like a little girl, tripping over my four inch heels.  I don't know.  I guess I pick my moments of fierceness.
With every situation in life, we can choose to be fierce or fearse (get it, fear-ce.  Yes, I realize it's a made up word.  Do it all the time.)  Sometimes, I grab life and run with it.  I can be that confident girl who knows what she wants.  And at other times, I let fear creep in and hold me back.  Even if it is something I want to do, I won't do it.  Simply out of the fear.  The fear of saying the wrong thing; the fear of putting myself out there; the fear of rejection; the fear of failing...Fear is not our friend, friends, because it causes us to pass up opportunity.  But what if.  What if we didn't let fear creep into our hearts.  What if we chose to live fiercely.  Every day.  And to not let opportunity pass us by.  A very wise woman once said to me, "Who could you be without that fear?"  And that is such a poignant question to ask yourself.  Who could you be?  When we react fiercely vs. "fearcley", we pilot our life to the destination we want to live, rather than end up somewhere that maybe we never really intended to go, simply because we were flying on autopilot.  If we never try, we'll never know.
So, I'm going to swallow these words I've just written, and I'm going to do something that I've been wanting to do, but too nervous.  I'm going to pick up the phone and invite a gal to lunch, who I have been dying to pick her brain.  What fierce move are you going to make today?  Check.  Checkmate?

This is great- something to always keep in mind! And if I had a hair day like the one you are having, I would definitely feel fierce, too! GREAT pics.

Great post! You're so right - fear has prevented me from doing some amazing things, but I think a part of it was my insecurity. We must seize the moment and make our own opportunities. So proud of you for making that call! Good things will come from it :)

This was so appropriately timed for me - I just sent off an email, signing myself up for open casting calls at a local musical theatre group! Something I have wanted to do forever, but just finally got up the guts to do it!!

Amazing post my dear! So inspired to live fiercely!!

I only fear, fear itself.
Luckily I get mad when I realize that this makes me a coward, so anger usually makes me overcome it.
Just keep on walking (even if you are not a Whiskey fan;)

I love that you own your fierceness. You've inspired me to go for something I've wanted to do for a long time - photography classes! I know it seems a weird thing to be in fear of, but I've always wanted to take one with a friend....but now I'll go solo.

Good luck!! I always get a little "glisten" going before/while I'm doing something that makes me feel anxious...it's like an involuntary work out!! And then when all goes well, (especially when you're taking a chance) you feel like you can do anything! Woo!

Love, love, love the red pants!! I totally know what you mean - whenever I wear my red pants, I feel like a bad A :) HAHA! {It sounds so funny now that I've written that down :)} But you absolutely look fierce!!

I tend to always let the fear get the best of me and keep me from doing things... But I'm now going to keep what you said in mind and maybe try to branch out a little. Good luck with your lunch date!

And I just have to say that I love this outfit. When I saw the first two pictures though I thought you had a body suit on over your pants and I was a little horrified. Once I realized it was just a TOP I felt much better. Haha

Have a wonderful day!

SO many wonderful things come from reaching out! I always live by the what ifs...and it usually makes you do something you don't feel you have the courage to do. Why not, right? I'm you end up being embarrassed over the saying the wrong thing, it's not that big of deal. You are you and we all are beautiful. Btw, love the red jbrand jeggings. They are fierce! xox

I love that question "who would I be w/ out fear" I've never really thought of it like that before. I'll be the first one to admit that I let my "fear" get the best of me. My goal from now on is to not let fear hold me back...I could be missing out on something wonderful. Thanks!

You're exactly right, we all have the potential to be the person we want to be, live the life we want to live... it's only ever fear that stops us.

I try to not let fear get out of the way, I emigrated with no money, no job, nowhere to live and just a suitcase to my name, and I'm so glad I let fierce rule over fearse ;)

It's always worth it in the end! xxx

Wow! It's funny how the universe sends you what you need at the right time. I've been going through the same thing. Trying to put myself back out there in the job market. Finally, yesterday, I called some gentlemen I've been trying to meet and insisted I meet them TODAY. I think I got myself a job. Or at least some great contacts and opportunities! Hope your conversation went just as well!

ps- That 3rd pic could be in a magazine spread, so artful.

I try to remind myself of Nike's motto: just do it! Sometimes when we listen to our instincts that tell us to do something, I feel like they serve as our "third eye" that will keep us from saying, "shoot! I knew i should have or shouldnt have done this/that!" it's really our fear thhat gets in the way or we make excuses. We need to be fierce! Women are powerful! Woot woot!

Love this post. Your pictures usually portray you in such a soft, gorgeous light. This outift and the background you chose paint you in your fierce (yet still gorgeous) light. Perfect for the post. As always, thanks for sharing :)

Love this post. Love what that woman said to you 'Who would you be without fear'. That's a great thing to think about. For me, fear is always around somewhere, and it's hard to make it go away! But I love what you also said about 'If we never try, we never know'. I need to remember that. And to also be fearse whenever possible!

Haha Kate, love your post! I just made my fierce move yesterday. We were having an away day at a beautiful place by the seaside. Two times in a year all our department (about 150 people) go to some place outside the office to talk some business, have some food, but mostly have fun. The place had a beautiful pool and the weather was just perfect to get in, swim and have fun. Two of my friends (guys) wanted to swim, but were too afraid to be the first ones to enter the pool. So, I was too tired to wait for them and was the first one, who was not afraid to be in a swimming suit in front of a hundred and fifty people. I was surprised myself! I didn't care what everybody thinks of my body or what anybody would say! I just got in and guess what, few minutes later all our brave guys got in the pool too. After I got out of the pool some time later, all the girls said that they are so jealous that I'm so brave :)

What an excellent shoot! Gorgeous hair and red jeans have never looked better...

Love your tips on being fierce. I'm just trying to set up my own company and have been procrastinating calling this guy that would MASSIVELY help simply because I'm too terrified that I won't get everything out of the meeting that I possibly could. I'm going to call him today and make it happen.

Thanks!
