It's important to take care of your hands, especially as you age! And even more important? You don't need to spend money going to the nail salon every week to do it. Take these simple tips, invest in a few products and pamper yourself. And I have to mention; I am so dead serious about that homemade exfoliant of olive oil and salt. Without a doubt, it is better than any product I have ever bought and tried. So, if anything, try that before putting lotion on your hands tonight! And heck, while you're at it, ask your hunny for a hand massage.

Great tips! Thanks for sharing:)
You are so much better at this than I am. I looked like a five year old did it.
I love giving myself a manicure. :) It's "me" time.
Oh I have never done base coat, I'll try next time!

Great tutorial! I'm a fan of OPI's Bubble Bath too, actually wearing it right now! xoxo
Great DIY post! I'll def have to try that olive oil + salt mix!
awesome - and try Sugar and olive oil. It's less drying than Salt can be.
Nice work on this post! For some unknown reason, giving myself a manicure always seems intimidating. It's nice to see it broken down in simple steps.
Oh, and I swear that olive oil is as important in beauty-care as it is in the kitchen. It's the secret ingredient in so many things...I will definitely have to try the salt scrub.
Pretty and easy ti make! You have beautiful hands!

Trying this to the letter when I get home tonight! Thanks for the post!
Just a quick hello from www.sevendaysandsunny.blogspot.com/
I wish my manicures looked that good. The left side is always great but my right hand always looked like I tried to paint my nails blindfolded... I'm NOT ambidextrous!
Im going to try it this weekend!
Great tutorial! :)
I love the idea of using olive oil and salt. The more natural the better is what I think. I love to paint my nails but a lot of the time I forget to take the time to take care of them before I paint. Thanks for the tips.

Ive always done my nails on my own. It's very rare that I have my pedicure and manicure done. Cause I agree, it's just wayyyyy cheaper and during these times, free things are always a good thing!

I love how you've covered every aspect of a good manicure! Most people just jumping into the base coat part.
Yay for a homemade manicure!

baby oil and sugar also makes a great exfoliant!!
To anonymous...I'm not a pro. It's why it's called a DIY. ;)

As a bartender my hands are always getting dried out; it's especially bad during the winter months. I've tried literally everything, to no avail.
I soaked my hands in warm, soapy water today and used your exfoliant and my hands are baby soft! You're the best. :-)
That scrub sounds great (though I think I agree with some others and would swap out the salt for sugar). I have to say, though, you missed a crucial step if you want your polish to really last. After applying the lotion and before the base coat, you should swipe JUST your nails down with nail polish remover. If there are any oils left on the nail, the polish won't adhere as well.
