Entire Outfit: Urban Outfitters
Arizona runs in my blood.  It's where I was born and raised.  I feel at one with the mountains, the cactus, the watercolor sunsets.  I've lived here my whole life, and I know that sounds boring.  But it is my home.  No matter where I go, I'll always come back.  Unless I ever move to California, it might tempt me to stay.  For eight months out of the year, the weather is absolutely perfect.  For the other four months out of the year?  Let's discuss.  Even though I've lived here my whole life, every year, I forget the feeling of how hot it actually gets. I always say, "Oh, I can totally put up with the dry heat."  Ugh.  I can put up with it, I'm forced to.  But oh.em.cow.  The word "hot" doesn't even begin to describe it.  Maybe we could go with,  firey - blazing - baking - scorching - blistering - searing - sizzling - broiling - molten hot.  Yes, those will do much better.  But you will have to use them all at once.  Because it's probably the only way to describe it.  Ok, it's not.  But you get the jist, right?

Three Things

1.  You can find me over at the Fashion Folio where Glorianna E-nterviewed me.  Talking about what's on my iPod, summer plans, and blogging.

2.  Also, I wanted to give a shout-out to the winner of that frockin' tote swap, Lauren, from the blog Busy Bee Lauren!  Don't worry, I parted ways with it when I shipped it off to Mara to style.  Thanks to all who voted!!

And Last.....

This morning Puppy woke me up around 5 AM.  As tired as I was, and as inconvenient for my sleep as it was, I got my toosh out of bed and carried Puppy to the front yard.  This too was inconvenient because I had to get dressed.  For a few minutes, I stared intently on Puppy as he did his business, unaware of my surroundings.  It's like I had blinders on, completely focusing on what needed to get done so I could go back to bed. As I was kneeling in the grass, I somehow managed to glance to the sky.  In a split second, my jaw dropped.  Literally dropped.  Like I've never seen anything so gorgeous.  The only thing I could think of was, "Wow."  I repeated my thought out loud.  "Wow..."  Like a little child.  Immediately, I ran into the house to grab my camera so I could capture the sun rising from the earth and reaching towards the heavens.
So today, I thank Puppy for needing to tinkle at 5 AM.  I thank Hubby for putting fertilizer in the backyard so  I could have a chance to witness the sun rising in the east.  And I thank Him for the subtle yet majestic reminders of the beauty that is.  Sometimes life's inconveniences lead you to so much beauty, even when you least expect it.  So here's to looking up more.

2011 Jun 22 039oringinal

Welp, I don't want to overload you with too much cuteness this Friday.  Oh wait, I just did?  Sorry.  Meet the latest addition to our family.  He is a two month old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, who happens to be the biological brother to our one-and-a-half year old girl dog, Tayla.  After much deliberation from Husband and I, we finally agreed on a name this morning.  And that name is -  Bentley.  Ok.  Now before you gasp, "Ohhmigosh like that big butthead from The Bachelorette?"  No.  It is NOT after that guy.  Promise k?
Current facts:  When Bentley is not napping, he likes to run around in circles really fast and then bump his head  into walls.  He is stealthy like a ninja and when you least expect it, he will attack your toes with his sharp little teeth.  Bentley rules the roost over Tayla and prefers not to get his picture taken.  Tayla on the other hand does.  Both are ridiculously good snugglers and have an affinity for wagging their tails.  Happy Friday.

Awkward and Awesome Thursday

Shirt: Forever21; Shorts: FreePeople; Bag and Earrings: Francesca's Collections; Shoes: Thrifted; Fedora: H&M
Awkward:
-Shopping in the produce department at the grocery store, picking out some nice vegetables, putting them in a cart, then pushing said cart towards Husband.  An old man behind me says, "Hello!"  I turn around in his direction and he is waving both arms at me. He says "Hello!" again. I smile back and cheerfully say, "Hi!"  Then he points to the cart that I am pushing and says, "That's mine!"  I replied, "Umm yeah, I was uhhh....just checking to see if the wheels were working. Yep! You've got a good cart here!" Husband was laughing.  And I hate embarrassing myself in front of Husband.  I like him to think I am cool at all moments.

-Speaking of old men.  I took my dog Tayla for a walk at the park on Saturday morning.  We were walking on our merry way and are suddenly approached.  By an 80 year old Korean War Vet named Vern who told me his life story.  Now, I'm all for talking to people who want someone to talk to.  But then he started hitting on me.  Some of his pickup lines were, "You have a hot body," and, "If you ever become a massage therapist, look me up."  Whaaaat?

-Getting poop in the bed.  Ok whoa.  Let's back up.  Rewind to 2:40 AM this morning.  Our new puppy was whimpering in his kennel so I took him outside to go potty.  Three quarters asleep, barefoot, in my pajamas, standing in the wet grass, I patiently waited for Puppy to do his business.  He successfully goes, so I pick him up, walk into our bedroom, and place Puppy back into his kennel.  As I was doing so, I noticed that it smelled like poop (sorry if I am totally grossing you out).  So, I stuck my hand inside his kennel and felt around to make sure he hadn't gone, and fortunately he hadn't.  So, I shrugged off the smell and continued to make my way back to bed.  As soon as I picked my feet off of the ground and slid them between my gorgeous 500 thread count sheets, ready to get my sleep back on, I realized, "Ohmigosh ohmigosh ohmigosh...I STEPPED IN POOP!!!!"  I'm not talking like, oh, you got a little bit of poop on you.  No, I'm talking holy cow, you got a LOT of poop on you.  Like hot off the press, tracked through my carpet and in my bed.  I had to tell Hubby what I had just done.  You can refer back to the last two sentences of the first paragraph to know how I was feeling at that very moment.

Awesome!:
-Getting our new Puppy on Tuesday!   I can't WAIT for you to meet him tomorrow.

-My BIG brother is turning 30 today!  Happy Birthday Bro!!!  Tonight.  We celebrate!!!

-Finally being completely settled in our new house.  Walls are painted, rooms are filled with life and there's no place I'd rather be.

Suuuuper....Woman?

Shirt: Joie; Skirt: c/o Windsor Store; Shoes and Earrings: H&M; Purse, Bracelet, Necklace and Watch: Francesca's Collections
We don't need to be supermodels to know that the world is our cat walk.  And we don't need super powers to be super women.  Sure, your face may not be on the covers of magazines, and you may not have the ability to read people's minds, but there is something inside each and every one of us that makes us truly wonderful.  The beauty and powers we possess are much more honest and real than anything found in a glossy magazine or a story defined by supernatural heroism.  Like the girl who battles society's standards of beauty just to feel comfortable in her own skin.  Or the mother who is impervious to sleep because she works day and night unconditionally taking care of her baby's every need.
So today, remember your powers.  Strut your thang walking down that sidewalk as if you've got cameras flashing.  Throw those shoulders back, keep your head high, and give that booty a little pop as you turn that corner.  Because there is nothing more powerful than confidence.  The the world is watching, and noticing, how super you are.  Just don't become too super that you refuse to get of bed for anything less than $10,000 a day, or go all Darth Vader on us.  Because that would so not be cool.

Hi, We're Friends Right?

Chiffon Top: c/o Windsor Store; Trousers with Belt: c/o Windsor Store: Shoes and Feather Headband: UO; Purse: Vintage; Earrings and bracelet: The Limited
Ok, I'm not one to pimp myself out or anything, but voting is now open for the Frock Candy purse swap.  Member, I talked about it here?
If you're feeling up for it, click on over to Frock Candy's blog.  And if you are really feeling up for it, vote for (*ahem*) me!  Not to sound like, desperate, or anything, but if I have to get on my knees and beg for your vote, I will.  And if it's really necessary, I'll even throw in a "cherry on top" and say a couple "pretty, pretty pleases."   Because well, I'm not saying I want to win that three rosette tote, but I'm saying I really want to win that three rosette tote.  ;)
If you decide to vote for someone else, I guess that's cool too.  I mean, all the girls who participated in the swap are total babes.  But it might make me cry a little on the inside.  And once I start crying on the inside there's no controlling those tears that will gush out of my eyes making me one sniffely, globbery mess.  But seriously, no hard feelings.  K?

She is Still Me

I am not a soda drinker.  Maybe, I'll drink it like once a month.  But it is very specific.  For example, I love a Shirley Temple if I am eating Mexican food.  It is something I have done since I was a little girl.  I can remember sitting at one of my favorite Mexican food restaurants growing up, with my family, hanging off the side of a booth with a balloon tied to my wrist, asking for extra cherries.  Even though I don't like cherries, I just thought they were pretty.  Some habits never die.  Twenty some years later, I still order Shirley Temples.  Except I've learned to sit properly and I don't have a balloon.
We don't really think about it, or notice, but a part of us is still that little girl we used to be.  When I look back on pictures of myself at one, five, and even thirteen, I wonder who that girl is.  Being young feels like a lifetime ago.  Even though I've grown up and I've changed both on the outside and the inside, I am still her and she is still me.  I am still that little girl who says "Ho hum" after a yawn just like my Father.  I am still that little girl who smiles when she sees a butterfly.  I am still that little girl who falls asleep with the television on.  I am still that little girl who looks up to my big sister, brother, Mom and Dad.  And I am still that little girl who dreams.
I think it is important to hold onto our innocence, especially in a cruel world.  It is important to always remember who you are and it is even more important to remember, who you were.  For if you ever feel lost, go back to the more simpler times within yourself, and even if it is for just a second, pretend you never grew up.

Fierce vs. Fearce

Tribal Print Top: c/o Windsor Store: White Safari Jacket: c/o Windsor Store; Jeggings: JBrand; Shoes: LC Lauren Conrad for Kohls; Purse: Tory Burch; Necklace: Francesca's Collections
There's something about the colors red and black paired together that make me feel fierce.  Like, "Hey, you!  Yeah, you old man over there on your bike staring while I snap photographs.  Don't mess with me."  And then a honey bee buzzes in my atmosphere and I screech and swat like a little girl, tripping over my four inch heels.  I don't know.  I guess I pick my moments of fierceness.
With every situation in life, we can choose to be fierce or fearse (get it, fear-ce.  Yes, I realize it's a made up word.  Do it all the time.)  Sometimes, I grab life and run with it.  I can be that confident girl who knows what she wants.  And at other times, I let fear creep in and hold me back.  Even if it is something I want to do, I won't do it.  Simply out of the fear.  The fear of saying the wrong thing; the fear of putting myself out there; the fear of rejection; the fear of failing...Fear is not our friend, friends, because it causes us to pass up opportunity.  But what if.  What if we didn't let fear creep into our hearts.  What if we chose to live fiercely.  Every day.  And to not let opportunity pass us by.  A very wise woman once said to me, "Who could you be without that fear?"  And that is such a poignant question to ask yourself.  Who could you be?  When we react fiercely vs. "fearcley", we pilot our life to the destination we want to live, rather than end up somewhere that maybe we never really intended to go, simply because we were flying on autopilot.  If we never try, we'll never know.
So, I'm going to swallow these words I've just written, and I'm going to do something that I've been wanting to do, but too nervous.  I'm going to pick up the phone and invite a gal to lunch, who I have been dying to pick her brain.  What fierce move are you going to make today?  Check.  Checkmate?

Awkward and Awesome

Entire outfit: UO; Top: Via Lynzy; Purse: H&M; Scarf worn as a belt: BCBG
Well, I don't see if Syd is linking up today, so since I've been kinda sorta laxadaisically planning these in my head all week, here are my Awkward and Awesomes:

Awkward:
-Walking into the grocery store on a beautiful evening and a random guy screaming at the top of his lungs a four letter expletive that rhymes with "duck".  (I'll let you narrow it down.)  After my ears were entirely offended, I gave him an, "umm, whats your problem look."  He proceeded to give me an, "I will eat you then spit your head out," look, which, entirely scared me.  So, I went on my merrily way to shop for zucchini, lemons and happiness.
-A house with no front door.  Seriously, this is SO perplexing.
-Getting butt dialed.  Of said butt dialer peeing.  There was also a zipper and a flush involved.  This was left entirely on voice mail.  No, I will not use it for blackmail purposes.  Maybe.  Probably not.  Ok, I won't.  Your secret is safe with me.  (Que evil laugh - Mwah-ha-ha-ha-ha.)

Awesome:
-Making new friends.  And not just new girl friends, but new couple friends.  MARRIED couple friends.
-Yogurt dates with old friends.
-Kickboxing.  My legs have never been so sore.  Ohh and it hurts so good!!
-Blasting Avril Lavigne's song, "Smile" on repeat in my car with the windows rolled down.  It reminds me of when I was 17 and I blasted her entire first album "Let Go," to and from my first real job as a lifeguard/swim teacher all summer long.  I guess some things never change.
-This polka dot shirt I swapped with Lynzy from Sparkling Footsteps.  You can see her take on it here.
-Those iced animal cracker cookies.  Ohmigosh I crave those things.  I blame Husband.
-And!  The fact that tomorrow is Friday.  Hello weekend!  Second week of June, I owned you.

Life is But a Day Dream

My favorite PJs: Xhilaration for Target; Vase: Mackenzie Childs; IKat Pillows: Nordstroms; Dream Pillow: Pottery Barn

So often I feel as though I start my day in a rush. It's like, wake up. Get dressed. Squeeze in a bowl of cereal. Go to work. Come home. Rush to the gym. Eat dinner. Shower. Go to bed. Then hit the repeat button for the next four days. This constant routine can put me in a fog, so it is important to focus on how to inject happiness into daily routines. As simple as they are, these are things I do to help my heart and my mind feel at peace:

1. Wake up early. This extra time in the morning helps clear my head and prepare me for the day. It offers a few extra moments to snuggle with Husband, to notice the sun's rays cracking through the bedroom windows; to prepare a healthy breakfast; to walk my dog and say my prayers. When we are early to rise, we are early to shine.

2. Be friendly. Make small talk with people you come into contact with. The fastest way to happiness is by showing your kindness to others. My mood instantly increases just by starting a conversation with a random person and to see them smile.

3. Buy your favorite bouquet of flowers. Who needs a secret admirer to score a bouquet? Buy a bouquet simply because you admire yourself. Besides, there is something about fresh flowers, that bring a sense of beauty into your home. Place them in a room where they can be enjoyed.

4. Burn a candle. I love this fragrance permeating throughout my room.  Instant mood enhancer.

5. Don't feel guilty about taking an evening for yourself. You need the morning to wind yourself up, and you need the evening to wind yourself down. Think of yourself as a dancing ballerina in a child's jewelry box. We dance to the music all day. When the music stops and your day stops spinning, enjoy your silence. Enjoy being still.

7. Be mindful of the sunset and the beauty that surrounds you. If you don't see any, search for it.

And last,

8. Be appreciative. Share it with others.

I hope you all have a happy and peaceful day.  XO

Shirt: Sugarlips; Jeans: JBrand "Love Story"; Purse, Necklace and Shoes: H&M; Belt: NordstromsBP
Well, I've written two long posts and chose not to share either of them.  Sometimes I feel at a crossroads between having a personal style blog but wanting to talk about other things such as happiness and our inner workings.  I would be very interested in hearing what you would like me to write or post about.  Leave a comment below or a question you may have for me!  Feel free to email me as well!  Thanks and Happy Tuesday!

Better Than Shopping (Yes, there is an Answer)

Blouse: BarIII for Macys; Skirt: Via Lynzy from Sparkling Footsteps; Clutch: Thrifted; Belt: NordstromsBP; Bracelet: Francesca's Collections; Necklace: H&M
So, you know what's better than shopping??? Hmmm hmmm hmmm? Blogger swapping. Yes please. No need to shop when you've got clothes coming to you in the mail by a super beautiful and stylish blogger friend. And that friend happens to be Lynzy over at Sparkling Footsteps. Score. Our lil swappy swappy action entailed us sending two special items to each other to style up to our little heart's desire. First on the list was this lovely mocha brown maxi skirt from Foreva21. I was a little worried about pairing a maxi with a billowy top but I think it might work due to the tops sheerness.  I don't know, you be the judge.  Here's Lynzy's take on the mocha maxi.  You can also see how Lynzy styled up my Parker dress here. I think she rocked it. I love her accessory choices with those hot platforms and pink purse.

On another note, I hope you all had a fun weekend!! xo

Weekend Plans

Top: c/o Alainn Bella; Jeans: JBrand "Kiki"; Shoes, Purse and Butterfly Clip: H&M; Belt: Nordstroms BP; Necklace: Francesca's Collections; Earrings: Forever21
I am feeling rather earthy today. Maybe it's these neutral tones of cream and brown from this pretty chiffon top from the super stylin' online clothing boutique, Alainn Bella.  Or maybe it's the butterfly kissing my hair. Or maybe it's just a longing to be outside. I walked around this morning looking for a place to snap some pictures and couldn't help but notice all of the beautiful flowers and trees blooming around me. Maybe this weekend I will go to a park, lay down a blanket, snap a few photos, stare at the clouds, and just be. Yes, yes. That is definitely on the agenda.  I've penciled it in. With permanent mind marker. It cannot be deleted. I just have to find time now between a 6 hour photo workshop, girl time, hubby time, house work, blogging, and maybe bringing a new puppy home. What are your plans for the weekend?

P.S., take advantage of  the 15% off discount Alainn Bella is offering to all of you!  Just enter "Happiness15" at checkout!

Strawberry Fields Forever

Shirt: Thrifter; Shorts: UO; Shoes and Belt: Target; Hat: Mad Hatter; Sunglasses: RayBan; Purse and Watch: Francesca's Collections; Necklace and Earrings: Forever21
Today I was dreaming to lay in strawberry fields forever.  And just get plump on eating those juicy red fruits.  Maybe I'll bring some sugar along to sprinkle on top before I take a big bite.  Or maybe I'll dip it in some whipped cream.  Oh and chocolate.  And let's not forget.  Vanilla ice cream.  Haagen Daz for that matter; it's the only way to go.  I don't care.  I will eat them as is.  As long as I'm under the summer sun, blue sky, and quenching life with every bite.
