I'm participating in a new feature called "Dress Code" with Kim from Penny Pincher Fashion, Lynzy from Sparkling Footsteps, and Kate from Oh my Heart. The idea is to give four different looks for an event, because let's face it - we all come across that dreaded question, "What am I going to wear!?" as we stare at our closet pulling our hair out. The first event we styled was for what we would wear to a wedding. There are different types of weddings - day, evening, beach, black tie, etc, so attire does vary. I went with the idea of a day to evening summer wedding, and kept the look simple.
Here are some of my wedding guest attire tips:
- Wearing hair down with loose waves is feminine, and doesn't feel formal. If you want to wear your hair up, this is a really simple look to try.
- A clutch is key for any wedding occasion. You don't want a bulky bag getting in the way of dancing! So make sure to bring just the essentials with you; lipstick, a comb, mints, id, credit card, your phone for taking pictures, and a hair tie in case you are a serious dancing machine. (Which I may or may not be guilty of.)
- Hem lines. Oh hem lines. Let's just all agree that a dress falling below your butt cheeks is never ok. Also never ok? Dancing to the "YMCA" or "Shout" in that hem line. General rule of thumb, if your arms fall longer than your dress when standing up straight, your hem is too short. If your fingers graze, you're a go!
- Accessories are always fun, but can sometimes feel confusing. When in doubt on how to accessorize that new dress, keep it simple like Kim, Lynzy, Kate and I did. Simple is always smart. If anything, stick to a dainty bracelet and a dangley pair of earrings or a statement necklace.
- And as far as color goes, keep it fun! Embrace it! And wear anything but white. I don't care what they say. It's just not proper etiquette.
Well, there you have it. My top wedding guest attire tips for a day to evening summer wedding. Hope this gives you some ideas, and eases that hair pulling just a little bit.
P.S. Tell us what occasion you'd like to see next, featured on The Dress Code!

A weekday evening social event with a dress code.
From time to time I attend various social events on weekdays and am always puzzled what to wear. These events have a dress code (no jeans), but are not super dressy as people often come after work...

Fun idea! I'd also like to add no black to weddings, although more and more ppl do it these days. Black = funeral!

Love this dress!!!!! And I agree, even though some say it is okay to wear white now to a wedding, I would never! I have a reception to go to this summer and will be wearing a coral/blue maxi with a yellow necklace and flat sandals! Great idea!

I like this series already. Can't wait to see more! I have a couple of weddings to attend this summer and spent the last couple of weeks debating wearing a very bright colored dress. Though i'm still a little unsure of it, this has been helpful.
Beautiful! I love that dress, and how you styled it so simply, perfect look!
