Anacapri, Italy - Part 2

Maxi Dress: Ann Taylor Loft; Clutch: H&M
I had to do a separate post for our evening at Ristorante Da Gelsomina.  The staff at the hotel recommended this spot to my husband, and before I knew it, the restaurant picked us up, and took us to the very top of Anacapri.  I literally had no idea where we were going.  As soon as I walked onto the property, I was blown away by the Mediteranean Sea, by the sunset, by the beautiful green vineyards, and the grapes on the vines...
Upon arrival, the restaurant gave us a complimentary glass of their homemade wine, sat us at a table on the patio, and suggested we take a walk around the grounds for a view of the lighthouse before the sun set.  As we walked through the quiet path bordered with tall trees, we made our way to the most incredible view I have ever seen.  I don't know if you have ever been somewhere, where the very the sight of it, brought you to tears.  I had the most unexpected, surreal, reaction to being here, and it literally felt as though I was high on life {which sounds so cheesy}.  But happiness hit really hard.   It was like, the culmination of every moment I've lived, and seeing something I've always dreamed existed, but never expected.
Looking at the sun setting, noticing the light and shadows on the earth, watching the birds and butterflies fly above the water, I knew I was surrounded by divine beauty.  And it was at this very moment, where I learned the power of expectations, or lack thereof.
You see, to live a life with expectations, almost always leads to disappointments.  You build something up so much in your mind, that when the reality occurs, the actual thought, seems greater than the experience.  When you live life without knowing what's always around the corner, when you expect nothing, it is then, where your dreams and your life collide; where you can simply exist.  Because, the present, truly becomes a present, and that happiness, is yours for the taking.

I'll leave you with one of my favorite quotes, from one of my all time favorite books {If you haven't read it you should!}.

I like what you said about not having expectations, although it makes me a little nervous! I have NEVER been outside the U.S. (sad) but my absolute dream trip is to to go Paris. Maybe that's cliche, but in my head, it's where I belong. I do sort of wonder if I will be disappointed when I actually go there. But I plan on waiting until I can afford to do everything I want when I'm there so I can make it the perfect trip (kind of like the one you seem to be taking)! So while I do agree with you at least partially, I also think it's fun to have a fantasy and something to look forward to.

I love this post Katie. You made me aware of just how many expectations I set on everything in life. What my coffee should taste like, how a piece of clothing should look on me, how a steak should be cooked, how my husband should be attentive when he gets home from a 2 hours day. Whew. I'm exhausted even thinking about the rest. Why do we always set expectations?
All I can say is thank you, because I plan on really working on this fault of mine. I hope to see true beauty in everything and let it fill me with happiness as it has for you.
