The timing was perfect. And the steps leading up to it were a crazy web of connections over a course of several years. It's a definitive point in my life, where I can say, if I didn't do this, this, this or this, I wouldn't have this current opportunity. And it all started with a boy. It usually does, but I digress.
I am now in my second week on the creative team for a local jewelry company, working as a photographer/stylist. I am excited to work, and for what's ahead.
Sometimes, I think we put so much stress on where we are in life, at least I do! Like, I need to figure it out at this very moment. But there is a natural process and progression to life; a series of steps we need to walk through in order to reach the prizes along the way. There are ups, there are downs, and there are periods of lulls. But it's through these moments that life is unfolding its' mysteries. I think we just have to move forward with the faith that our stories are going to work out. And not the way we expect it to. But better. Much better. There's a greater plan to it all. So keep walking, keep living, and don't forget the direction of your dreams. I know I won't.

Gorgeous outfit! I love the stripes with the hot pink!
I've thought about that... There are days when I feel the exact same way as you did... I want to quit my job as an Auditor and do something else for example work in a clothing store and find another hobby i.e. photography... I hope that my path will sooner than later decide to help me figure out what to do on my journey... This audit thing has been going on for too long and I hate sitting at a desk all day, everyday... ;) xoxo
This is so so so true. Sometimes I'm in such a rush to figure out how things are 'supposed to be' that I forget that they will happen when they are supposed to, and it may not be at all how I pictures. Congrats on making new & fabulous changes! And, I'm absolutely loving this look!
Amen! Well, said Katie! I did just that two years ago this December. I quit my job not knowing where I'd be headed, without another job lined up, was unemployed for nine months, and am now working at my dream company with wonderful people and couldn't be happier! Thank you for reminding me that life's mysteries aren't so bad. Beautiful (outfit) as always! :)

Ahhh stripes! Congratulations on the new job! How comforting it can be to see that the universe is unfolding exactly as it should! We can relax just a little bit, right? You're so fabulous.
What an amazing way to put it. I believe I am still on that uphill walk to find that dream job and you just made me feel so much better about where I am at in life. Someone once told me the 5-90-5 rule, live 5% of your life learning from your past, 5% dreaming about the future, and 90% in the present time.
Thanks for the great words of wisdom and you look fab.

Congrats! I've been trying for the past year and a half to get back into a fashion job and it hasn't happened for me yet. Hopefully the universe is busy making plans for me too.

I love it when things happen like this. I have a similar story- it's almost better when it happens this way I think. With the right attitude, an open and often fearless heart you find the right path. Congratulations!
Katie! Gah! I am a legal assistant and for the past 2 weeks (since being back from getting married) I've had those same thoughts that maybe "law isn't for me" and what else is there out there for me! What a scary time this is!
Glad you found your calling!

I wish you knew how incredibly timely this post was.. as I had one of those "I need to figure it out this VERY moment" breakdowns THIS VERY MORNING. This gave me hope and inspiration that this is all part of the plan. I couldn't be happier for you that it all worked out so beautifully. I hope you share your work on the blog!

"For a long time it had seemed to me that life was about to begin - real life. But there was always some obstacle in the way, something to be gotten through first, some unfinished business, time still to be served, or a debt to be paid. Then life would begin. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life."

What a fantastic job! I did the same thing you did about a year and a half ago; quit my corporate job because it just wasn't me, having always wanted to do something creative for a living. It is definitely scary, like you said. I'm definitely not making the money I once was, but I am 100% happier doing something that I'm passionate about. I love what you said about how things don't always turn out how we expect them to, but there is a greater plan. It all ends up weaving together to form a beautiful tapestry, even when at times it may seem like a crazy mess. :)

Congrats! I have definitely learned in recent years in putting a little more faith that things will work out. Its a hard thing to remember at times but it sounds like you have an awesome new job.
Congratulations Katie! Several months ago I had reached out to you on some blog advice. Even then you shared on just being true to who you are when sharing on a blog. Let it be anything. Best advice ever. Work doesn't feel like work when it's something you enjoy doing. Many people successful in life don't work. At least that's how they perceive it. They have fun. They have a passion. A dream. They went for it. Life was blessed in many form because they did so. They are the same people who are also happy. Wish you all the best in all your future endeavors. You're a great inspiration.
Congratulations on the new gig! That's so amazing and it sounds like the perfect fit for you! I love when things come together like that :). Also, I love this vertical-striped dress and how you paired it with the boots!

sometimes i really appreciate the universe's plans. go you!
I just put in my two weeks at my first job and this is EXACTLY what I needed to read after doing so :)
This is EXACTLY what I needed to read today. I am going through something similar - so unhappy with my job now and wanting to know/do the next big thing. I need to just sit back and let things happens, and realize how much I do have going for me, with amazing connections!
You go girl! So proud of you for taking that step. And thanks for sharing. It was just the little encouragement I needed today.

That's wonderful :) I'm so happy you have found something that you love. It's always hard when you go to school for something, or you spend so long planning a certain path in life and it no longer makes you happy. It's great that life was able to put something even better in your hands :)
This is great news. Congrats. I am glad you found a job using your photography because your pictures are wonderful. Good for you.

I needed to read this post, I feel like I am in a rut at my job and this gives me some inspiration! Thank you!
Good for you for not living with monotony and staying stuck in a job that didn't make you happy. I think it is so easy for us as humans to just settle and we should not do it. Time is way to precious.
I also like how you talked about timing. I just wrote a post about that last week: http://cardigansandpassports.blogspot.com/
Thanks for being honest Katie. Good luck with that new job!
Adorable as ever. I was just chatting with some coworkers last week about how I was so inspired by you following your heart and *boom* doors are flying open for you. I didnt know til today you tossed the law gig, but it just confirms that when you make a decision, the Universe conspires to make it so. So very excited for you and your new adventure!
So happy for you!! Good luck with the new job.

First of all I love your outfit and second of all good job for following your heart. Its not always easy but in the end everything always works out for the best. I just finished reading The Alchemist for the 3rd time and if you get a chance you should maybe give it a read. It is very quick but a beautiful story. I just wrote a blog about following your personal legend. Good luck at your new job,

This specific post really resonates with me. I often try to plan, plan, plan and it has gotten me to a place in life that I'm so happy with, but at the same time so lonely and (for a moment of terrible diction) sad. I'm slowly beginning to just let the world take me where I'm supposed to go and focus on my happiness over stress of getting on with the plan.
So thank you for letting me know I'm not the only one and for giving me some confidence that things will work out, that happiness prevails!
Hey Katie,
I've read your blog for a few months now, and never realized you worked in the legal profession. I am currently finishing the last year of my law degree, and have committed to articles. I have had similar fears about the profession, ie: burning out, etc. I would love to talk more via email about how you made the transition, and what area you were working in. Let me know if you're interested. Thanks!
Chelsea
